The Best Racing Simulator For Under $1000
Share
Let's talk about the best simulator you can buy for $1000 or less.
When buying a racing simulator, budget is usually the deciding factor for what type of setup you're going to get. And us here at Boundless Racing want to give a guide for the best racing simulators at $1,000, $5,000, $10,000, $25,000, and $50,000. In this article, let's talk about a racing simulators costing $1,000 or less.
Console or PC?
In sim racing, you have to the "brain" of the setup. And in any case, it is either a console or a PC. For consoles, you have either the Play Station 5 or the Xbox Series X. And then for PC's, you have a range of pre-built PC's or build one yourself, with either option costing anywhere from $700 to $5000 or more. For a budget setup costing $1000 or less, you should more than likely go with a console.
And for us, it depends if you are an Xbox or Playstation type of person for which type of console you're going to get. Both have their pro's and con's. However, when it comes to this article, we'll go with the Xbox Series X.
What Games?
For the Xbox Series X, you get a few leading titles within the sim racing space to play. Some games include Forza Motorsport, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Forza Horizon 5, The Crew Motorfest, and soon to be Assetto Corsa Evo.
Furthermore, as time goes on, more content will be added to these games. Along with that, more games will comes out or have already came out. I would recommend doing the proper research for your own gaming experience.
What Steering Wheel?
For this sub $1000 category, you don't have a lot of options when it comes to wheels. For cost effectiveness, you'd want to get a "sim racing bundle." These sim racing bundles usually come with a wheelbase, steering wheel, and set of pedals.
The industry standard is of course the Logitech G923 and the Thrustmaster T248. However, we recommend going with the MOZA Racing R3 Bundle. This bundle comes with a 3.9nm direct drive wheelbase, sporty steering wheel, and two pedal set. Not to mention, what's great about this product is it is upgradeable. Whether you want a better steering wheel, pedal set, wheelbase, or even add a shifter + handbrake, you're able to do that with the MOZA ecosystem.
Purchasing the R3 Bundle is also a breeze as you can get it off the MOZA Racing website. However, you can get it in person at all Micro Center stores as well as get it shipped and fulfilled on Amazon.
The R3's convenience and direct drive technology makes it a no brainer.
What Monitor?
Don't get a monitor.
If you do, I'd recommend something cheap. Like a high refresh rate 1080p 27" monitor. Anything works, as long as it fits the budget and is cheap. This would be great if your main focus with your sim racing setup is dialing in your skills and focus on the competitive aspect.
However, if you are looking to just race for fun, I would highly recommend looking at a lower end 4K TV with as high of a refresh rate as possible if you want to focus on the graphics. Unless you're training for the track or an esports event, a TV will be immersive and fun for the casual sim racing gamer.
What Cockpit?
The Advanced Sim Racing ASR 1 is the cockpit for you. Made from extrusion aluminum that is 40mm thick, the ASR 1 gives you the potential to upgrade your wheelbase without upgrading your sim racing frame in the future. Plus, it will be more than sturdy enough for your MOZA Racing R3 Bundle.
Along with the rigidity of the ASR 1, there are also a slew of upgrades you can add to the cockpit that you can find on our Boundless Racing storefront.
With the reliability and upgradability of the ASR 1, it's the go to pick for "budget" sim racers.
